Fort Gratiot Lighthouse Tour
Date: 7/7/07
Saturday, July 7th at 12:00 we will visit the Fort Gratiot Lighthouse in Port Huron. The lighthouse is located a little North of the Bridge to Canada. We will meet at 12:00 at the lighthouse for a short lecture which includes the history of the lighthouse. Very informative and entertaining. Then we will go in groups of 8 to the top of the Lighthouse for anyone who wishes to go. The phone number is 810-982-0891.
No open toed shoes will be allowed to go up in the lighthouse. If it is a rainy day we will have to reschedule.
We can also tour the Lightship if anyone wants and go swimming at the beach. We should also have a picnic. We would do the lighthouse tour, then picnic, then do the lightship for those who want, then swim. The only thing that would cost anything would be the lighship. The address of the Lightship is: Port Huron Huron Lightship, 1115 6th St., Port Huron, MI 48060 The admission price for the Lightship is: Adults: $6.00 Seniors (55+): $5.00 Students: $5.00 Children 6 and under: FREE when accompanied by an adult.
Again, the lighthouse is free. Directions to the Lighthouse is: From I-94 take Pine Grove Street (M-25) north, then turn right onto Garfield Street and follow Gratiot Avenue. The lighthouse is located in a Coast Guard facility. Parking is available in the area to the North of the station. For information on tours call Bob Hanford at (810) 982-0891.
